What data we collect and why
Location (GPS)
Used in-session only to rank fuel stations by distance. Never stored on our servers. Stays on your device.
Car profile
Stored in your browser's localStorage only (make, model, fuel type, tank size, consumption). Never sent to our servers unless you use the AI chat.
Email address
Collected if you sign up for a price drop alert or submit feedback. Stored in our Supabase database. Used only to send you the alert or to reply to your feedback.
FuelScout submissions
Station ID, reported petrol/diesel price, and submission time. Stored in our database. Used to update station prices shown to all users.
Anonymous browser ID
A randomly generated unique identifier (UUID) stored in your browser's localStorage. Not derived from your IP address or any personal data — it cannot identify you as a real person. Used to track your FuelPoints balance. Retained until you clear your browser's localStorage, which you can do at any time in your browser settings. This identifier is not personal data under GDPR (EU) 2016/679 Article 4 as it has no link to any natural person.
Feedback & bug reports
Name (optional), email, message, and star rating. Stored in our database. Used to improve the app and reply to you.
AI chat queries
The text of your questions to the FuelSmart AI assistant, your anonymous user key (a hashed fingerprint of your IP address — not the IP itself), token count, and timestamp. Stored for rate-limiting and cost monitoring. Retained for 30 days.
Anonymous visit count
A hashed fingerprint of your IP address (not the IP itself) and the date you visited. Used to count unique daily visitors. The hash cannot be reversed to identify you.
What we do NOT collect
We do not collect your name unless you provide it in feedback. We do not store your raw IP address. We do not use advertising cookies or tracking pixels. We do not share any data with third parties for advertising purposes. We do not create user accounts or track your session across visits. We do not link your anonymous ID to your name, email, IP address, or device.
Third-party services
Supabase
Our database provider (EU-hosted). Stores station prices, submissions, alerts, feedback, and anonymised chat logs.
Anthropic Claude
Our AI provider. Your chat question is sent to Anthropic's API to generate a response. See anthropic.com/privacy.
Vercel
Hosts the app. Vercel may log standard HTTP request metadata (IP, user-agent) per their privacy policy.
Resend
Used to send admin notification emails when feedback is submitted. Only admin email is involved; your email is not sent to a third party.
